“Pleasant. Have been to the green this afternoon  Mother and Otis went to Bridgewater this evening  John passed the evening and night here  Oh the happy hours which we are permitted to enjoy they are appreciated in trust.” – Hattie E.F. D.

Notes: The green Hattie refers to is Taunton Green, the center of town.
Otis is Hattie’s younger brother (James Otis).
Portrait from family album. Reverse side. “Otis Chace” is Hattie’s son, though his last name is misspelled (should be Chace). The photograph appears to be a Christmas gift judging by the date of 25 December.
