“Pleasant. Remained at home during the day  evening, Grandmother and Aunt Mira passed the day here   Aunt Jane passed the P.M. here  attended class meeting at the parsonage  John passed a few very pleasant  hours with me after the meeting.  – Hattie E.F. D.

“Pleasant. Called on Miss Addie Simmons Mrs Noah Ashley Mrs Chace and Mary Abby. remained at home in the evening.” – Hattie E.F. D.

Notes: Below is the first page of the residential part of the Taunton Directory of 1850. You’ll notice that almost all of the names are of men. Women were only listed when their husbands had passed away (as widows). Also listed are occupations and street addresses.
