July 28, 1866

“Tempest and Rain. Have remained at home during the day  it has been a very lonely day.. John passed the evening with me..”  – Hattie E.F. D.

Portrait from family album.
Reverse side of portrait, which reads “To Mrs Chace Feb 26 ’81” (which in this case would be 1881). Mrs Chace is likely Hattie as Chace was her married name. 1881 being 15 years after her 1866 diary, Hattie would have been 35 years old when this photo was given to her by this young woman (unidentified on the photo).
