“Called on Augusta. John returned from Portsmouth  passed the night here. we passed a very pleasant evening. it was very pleasant to was very pleasant to again enjoy his presence. Mrs Alfred Balcomb died  she was loved by a large circle of friends and I trust her image will ever occupy a place in our hearts.”    – Hattie E.F. D.

Mrs Balcomb’s 24-day old infant died three days ago (see entry for Wednesday, February 21).
